We spent last week in Torquay, our first in a caravan (I'm warming Rob up for camping but don't tell him ;-) ). We had a great time and it was lovely just doing our own thing and not getting distracted by work and house stuff.
The site had a great play area, and the girls spent loads of time chasing round and making friends to play mermaids and pirates and other games. It was lovely to watch Meg build her confidence on the zip wire, and by the end of the week she was haring up and down on it with no assistance.

The first couple of days were spent mooching and enjoying the beach, crazy golf and eating too many fish and chips.

The water was cold, but that didn't stop Meg getting saturated. Which of course she found hilarious. Isobel was more content to mooch around in the sand as she didn't like the seaweed.

On Monday we did the "round robin" - a stream train from Paignton to Kingswear, a ferry over the river to Dartmouth and then a river boat to Totnes and an open top bus back to Paignton. It was a lovely day and the girls had a great time exploring Dartmouth Castle. Isobel especially enjoyed the river boat, it was windy but there was alot to see, including seals (she was very excited).

It was also a long day and this picture was the result. There were more beds but they chose on this occasion to share and were out like lights in seconds.

On Wednesday we went to Paignton zoo, it was pretty bad rain but we still had a fab time, it's a lovely zoo and the girls were especially impressed with this Lioness, who came right up to the glass to see them.

Given the opportunity I think this little monkey would have stayed..............

Thursday was another wet day so we stayed close to base enjoying the pool and having an afternoon snooze. It was lovely. The pool was great and again it was brilliant to watch the confidence increase over the course of the week. Isobel eventually plucked up the courage to go on the flume, and loved it - she was so proud of herself and then of course went on again and again.
Friday however was a very different story, the sunshine was glorious, so we spent the day on the beach at Babbacombe, using the vintage cliff railway to get down and enjoying walking the coastal path round to see some of the sights.

We saw quite a few painters on the way and Meg loved watching them, they were also very impressed to discover this little waterfall, tucked away on the path.
After the treat of lunch at a very nice pub (the Cary Arms if you happen to be in Babbacombe), we spent a happy afternoon rock pooling and climbing up and down rocks, as well as learning about rock strata and how fossils are made (following up on our trip to Torquay dinosaur world earlier in the week).

We were very sad to say goodbye and Megan announced when she wins the lottery she'd like to buy our caravan :-)

So we're home again and daddy is already in London working whilst we paint and make the most of the sunshine in the garden. Only 2 weeks left of school holidays, so in between some obligatory work I plan to enjoy whats left of the summer :-)
